About the Project

The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners and the Greater Dalton Metropolitan Planning Organization are sponsoring the Dug Gap Road Corridor Study.

This traffic corridor study focuses on a 5.3-mile stretch of Dug Gap Road between State Route 52/Walnut Avenue to State Route 3/US 41/Connector 3. The project is aimed at engaging the community and providing a full picture of conditions and needs in this important area within the county. The study will analyze and improve traffic volumes, alignment, and overall level of service, addressing specific areas prone to accidents.

The study will create a comprehensive document featuring the results of community surveys, technical inventories, and findings, as well as a set of actionable goals. The corridor study's quality initiatives, data, and future scenarios will provide a solid foundation for Whitfield County to build upon in its ongoing discussions and planning for better quality of life in the area.
